Donna Jean Hermie

Donna Jean Hermie, 86, of Annawan, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 20, 2026, surrounded by the quiet comfort of the life she had so lovingly built.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory - Atkinson, IL, with a graveside service following at 2:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Annawan. Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate.

Born on September 6, 1939, in Kewanee, Illinois, Donna was the cherished daughter of Floyd and Lillian (McGinnis) Carrington. She graduated from Annawan High School with the class of 1957, carrying the warmth and strength of her small-town roots into everything she did.

On June 14, 1958, she married James D. Hermie, the love of her life and her steadfast companion. Together they shared nearly sixty years of devotion until Jim’s passing on August 17, 2018.

Donna worked for many years as a utility clerk and in sales at Eagles, where her friendly spirit and dependable nature were well known. Yet her true joy lay beyond the workplace—in the gentle rhythm of crocheting and, above all, in the laughter and love of her family. Time spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended generations was the heartbeat of her days, a treasure she held close until the very end.

She leaves behind a legacy carried forward by her beloved children, Kim (Gregg) Pickering of Kewanee and Sue (Chuck) White of Sheffield; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, each of whom felt the warmth of her unwavering affection.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lillian Carrington; her devoted husband, James Hermie; her grandson, Nathan Pickering; her sister, Elaine Miller; and her brother, Gary Carrington.
