Floyd Wohrley, 97, passed away on February 18, 2026, at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo, IL. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Malachys Catholic Church in Geneseo, IL. Father Chris Haake will officiate. Burial will take place at Rosedale Cemetery in Cambridge, IL. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Memorials may be made to the Kewanee Schools Foundation 1001 N. Main St. Kewanee, IL. 61443.
Floyd was born on January 10, 1929, the son of Andrew and Marie (Adrion) Wohrley in Dixon, IL. He graduated from Dixon High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Floyd attended Western Illinois University where he ran track and cross country and then went on to graduate from the University of Illinois where he obtained his degree in Agriculture Education and certification to teach. Floyd married Margaret Curran on August 1, 1953.
In his career, Floyd worked in agribusiness or taught agriculture, including teaching positions at Erie, Cambridge, and Kewanee High Schools. Floyd also received a Master of Science in Agriculture Education from the University of Illinois. He taught ag for 33 years, for 20 years in Kewanee while also serving as the Vocational Director. Mr. Wohrley was involved with the student organizations in his role as FFA advisor, Student Council advisor, and senior class sponsor. He wanted all to experience “culture” – agriculture. Additionally, he was the coordinator for Black Hawk East Jr. College Area School/Adult Continuing Education programs. Floyd volunteered with 4H, FFA Section and State activities and multiple vocational associations.
In retirement, Floyd enjoyed traveling with Margaret and spending winters in Florida. He liked working on his farm in Henry County. He was a fan of high school and college athletics, especially the Illini. He attended St. Malachy’s Church, and was a member of the VFW, Farm Bureau and Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
Those left to remember his stories and wisdom include his sons, Jim (Karen) Wohrley of Belleview, FL, Tom (Marta) Wohrley of Parker, CO; daughter, Cathy (Mark) Koch of Elmhurst, IL; grandchildren, Emily (Josh) Stokes of Parker, CO, Rob Wohrley of Aurora, CO, Neil (Anna) Wohrley of Lonetree, CO, Mary-Margaret Koch of Denver, CO; four great grandchildren; brother, John Wohrley of Dixon, IL: and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Margaret; parents, Marie and Andrew; sisters, Marion Swartz and Dorothy Wohrley; brothers, Louis (Lou) and Henry (Hank) Wohrley.
